Office Flooring at Home

With more and more of us working at home, we offer guidance on what to choose for the flooring in your home office. Whether that's vinyl, laminate or traditional carpets, we look at these here and offer advice on fitting it.

Despite us coming out of the pandemic, there is a feeling that home working is here to stay. Before, management would've baulked at the idea, but the last two years forced their hand, and they've come to realise that workers still work - even at home. More importantly, workers have a taste for it now: there's less time on overcrowded roads and trains, less money spent on commuting and more importantly it addresses the work/life balance which previously favoured the former.

So, if you're looking to spruce up that spare bedroom into something more corporate or creative, then we have some suggestions on office flooring for you here.

Hard or soft home office flooring

Wool Rustica by Crucial Trading

When choosing office flooring for the home, we ask what kind of chair you use, particularly if you have a classic office chair on wheels. The backwards and forth motion can cause rucking where the carpet starts to roll and undulate. A solution to this is to stick the underlay down and the flooring on top. It provides extra durability, which keeps your flooring looking good for longer. Below are some carpet suggestions for the home office.

Laminate or Vinyl Flooring

You can, of course, avoid this by opting for laminate or vinyl flooring solutions. These lend themselves better to office environments as they are hardwearing and allow you to roll around your office with very little resistance.

Carpet Tiles

Carpet tiles are a good option if you're looking for something between the two. They are more often than made of polypropylene and come in a vast range of colours and patterns. Ideally, they work best on even and secure floors like concrete. However, it's not usually recommended to tile onto wood floors as there is more give which can cause your tiles to bend and crack.

With so many colours available, there are opportunities for individuals and companies to either use their colour branding in spaces or see the floor as a canvas for your creativity to flourish.
